We've been handcrafting boots on Australian soil since 1932.

Our team of highly skilled craftspeople continue to realise the vision of Reginald Murray 'RM' Williams, employing traditional techniques and premium leathers, just as our founder did, all those years ago. Our time-honoured approach ensures that each and every R.M.Williams boot is made to our legendary standards of quality and infused with a truly Australian spirit of adventure.

A legacy that became legendary

The R.M.Williams story began with a desire to do things differently – and a good measure of elbow grease. A young Reginald Murray ‘RM’ Williams crafted his first leather boot whilst camping in the Flinders Ranges in 1932 using just one piece of leather. That boot went on to symbolise Australian style, evolving into the iconic boot that we still craft today.

RM’s legacy lives on in our commitments to quality, creativity and preserving our uniquely Australian way of doing things.

Design with purpose

It takes 88 pairs of hands to bring each R.M.Williams boot to life at our Adelaide workshop. Amongst these many processes, leather is cut, blocked and shaped on a unique last, combined with elastic panels and constructed with a Goodyear welt, which allows the boot to be resoled again and again.

The result is a boot that’s instantly recognisable, with a single-piece leather upper, branded tugs and in many instances, a distinctive leather sole, stained in homage to the richly toned earth of the Australian outback. Each element has an important role to play, whether it be the provision of comfort, ease or rugged durability.

Made to last

When you craft a boot for the unrelenting conditions of the Australian outback, the concept of durability takes on new meaning. Our premium materials and artisanal techniques produce a boot worthy of life’s great journeys, ready to take on a few knocks, scratches and marks of adventure.

And as RM always said, “the only thing better than a new R.M.Williams boot is an old R.M.Williams boot.”

If you take your boots too far off the beaten track, they can be returned to our Adelaide workshop and the hands that lovingly crafted them for a dedicated repair service. One in every 10 boot transactions we see is for a repair service, and we’re proud to see customers still wearing the same pair of RMs for upwards of 60 years.

A bootprint to be proud of

Our commitment to keeping things local has set the standard for Australian manufacturing since 1932, and allowed generations of Australians to build a career in handheld craft.

The positive effects of this are manifold, resulting in more Australian jobs, local training opportunities and full control over how products are manufactured at our Adelaide workshop. Simply put, it's better for local communities and better for you.

That's a bootprint we can all feel proud of.

Crafting a better future

Crafting a better future

All of this contributes to our efforts to craft a better future, as set out in our holistic strategy. By shaping Australian craftsmanship, making regenerative products and crafting products that endure, we can fortify the local production industry and generate positive impact for years to come.

Our boots are the lifeblood of this strategy, stepping forward boldly for not only Australian manufacturing, but for the Australian way of life from which they were born.

An authentic Australian spirit

The R.M.Williams boot is an enduring reminder of the amazing things that Australia can achieve when we stay true to our unique national spirit – one of determination, ingenuity and resillience.
